Projects

Current Projects
The SHS Foundation will carefully consider all projects that enhance the quality of education and
enrich the lives of students at Summervillle High School.

Theatre Seating-Seats to be Installed in July 2010!!
Professional theater seating in the Summerville High School Auditorium is key to the overall success of the events presented in this venue. The total cost for this venture is $145,000 for 324 padded theater seats that will fold away on telescoping risers. The seats will replace the very uncomfortable folding chairs now used for performances and assemblies. A grant of $50,000 was awarded by USDA for the completion of this project. The SHS Foundation will grant $40,000 toward the purchase of these seats. The new seats will be installed during the first two weeks of July, 2010 and ready for use in 2010-2011!

Sports Complex
The Sports Complex project is our major long-term project. We estimate the cost for an all-weather track, stadium seating and lighting to be about $3 Million. It will be built with donations from local individual donors, grants and partnerships with local businesses. Fifteen (15%) of all our donations are invested toward this long-term goal: “The Field of Dreams.”

This is the one area on campus that is used for not only Track, Soccer and Bear Football Games, but also the annual Bears’ Graduation ceremonies. Community organizations such as Relay for Life also stage events in this venue. We want to make it our premier facility at Summerville.

Completed Projects

We completed the new Girls Softball Field in 2006.

We have now finished the new regulation Tennis Courts. Summerville’s Tennis Team began practice and competition on the new courts in the spring of 2009.

As part of this portion of the Sports Complex we have built a block storage building during the winter of 2010. Coaches and staff will no longer have to pack up rackets, bats and balls and carry them out the field each day. Construction on a restroom facility will begin in the spring of 2010.

Both of these projects were completed thanks to donations by individual donors, alumni, local non-profit organizations, private businesses and our own Foundation fundraising efforts.

We thank each and every one who helped move these projects to completion. Plan to come out and see a game or tournament in the near future! It feels great to see these facilities being used by our students!

Other programs that have benefited from donations in 2009 are:

The Academic Decathlon
The Envirothon Event

The Wrestling Program -2010

The Baseball Program-2010 from memorials for Peppe Larsson and Family.
